Just clocked 18 and want to try your first makeup buy? Don’t worry, makeup, like many things, involves trial and error and lots of practice from you, but a little help never hurts. Selectastyle has put together a a beginners kit of affordable products that every new girl needs in order to go into makeup full time.
Below Are Your Best Buy
Concealer– Concealer is a must. Even if you’re hesitant about using face makeup for the first time, Concealers contain more pigment than foundation and allow you to cover up things like dark circles or any unwanted blemishes.
Primer– Is a base for foundation or face makeup that allows it to go on smoother and last longer. When choosing a primer, it’s important to take your skin type into consideration.
Blush– Helps your beautiful face glow and look lovely. A good way to choose a perfect blush is to select a color that mimics your natural flush. If you want to experiment with different colors, you should keep your skin tone in mind. Peachier tones tend to look best on those with warm skin, while pink shades flatter those with cool skin. Apply blush starting towards the back of the cheek and work your way forward towards the apples.
Bronzer– Gives your face a tan-like glow. It’s best to apply a warm shade in the shape of a “3” along the sides of your face, hitting your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline. You can also use what’s left on your brush and dust it across the bridge of your nose. Cool toned bronzers can be used subtly in the hollows of your cheeks to create a natural-looking contour.
Brow Pencil- Enhance and refine the shape of the eyebrows. That’s why it’s important to keep them looking groomed and neat.
BB Cream– We advice trying out a BB cream before jumping into the realm of foundation if you’re new to makeup. BB, or “beauty balm,” creams provide light coverage and don’t feel heavy like some foundations can. Overall, they’re a good way to allow your skin to get used to the feel of wearing makeup. Like primers, knowing your skin type is important when choosing a BB cream.
Highlighter– It’s not a must do step, but if you want to achieve that stunning, lit-from-within glow, you’ll need a highlighter. Highlighters are light, shimmery champagne or golden toned powders or liquids that are applied to the tops of the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow and under the brow to attract light to the high points of the face.
Powder– Is one of those makeup must haves that we recommend in your makeup collection. The main purpose of powder is that it helps to set your foundation and concealer. You don’t necessarily need to wear so much. If you have drier skin, you can usually get away without it but if you have combo/oily skin, it’s a must.
Brow Gel- If your brow hairs are misbehaving, a brow gel is what is going to lock them in place and keep them tamed all day. They come in clear or tinted shades, depending on your preference, and can be swiped over bare or filled in brows for a quick fix.
