Do you constantly see yourself reapplying your chap-stick on and on? If yes, then here are reasons why you seem addicted to it, and how you can stop it.
Before we break down the reasons for you, you should know that not all lip balm are the same, while some are good, others might worsen your lip situation.
According to expert, there two reasons why you always need your lip balm.
1. If your lip balm contains irritating ingredients, it could cause inflammation and loss of hydration, which could lead to your lips needing more moisture, hence you keep applying the product on and on.
What To Do:
Check the ingredient list before you buy and chap-stick, and make sure you stay away from products that contain fragrance, menthol, or salicylic acid, which can irritate the fragile skin on and around the lips.
2. Second is when you continually use product that forms a barrier on the skin, products like petrolatum. These products can cause lips to become lazy because the skin doesn’t have to work to maintain its own hydration level. When your lips get used to having it on, they become extra dry when it’s not there. The normal thing to do would be to apply more of the product, and that would in turn cause more harm.
What To Do
You have to go through the dry spell to get lips back to normal and working on their own again before applying another balm. This doesn’t mean you can’t use these products; just do so in moderation.
So What Makes A Good Balm?
Look for balms that are made with lanolin, they are semi-occlusive like experts says, they creates a barrier while still allowing skin to breathe so you get the best of both worlds. Apply your balm only when you need it, rather than compulsively throughout the day.
And Remember, constant reapplication can cause more harm than good.
